Sweden eSAF Plant Gets €21M Grant; European Business Aviation SAF Compliance Cost Still Has No Short-Term Solution

Swedish Energy Agency granted €21M to Skellefteå electricity-to-liquid synthesis aviation fuel (eSAF) plant for design and engineering phase. In same period Germany committed €350M for eSAF projects. However, these capacity investments still need years before actual supply. Currently EU ReFuelEU regulation already requires 2% SAF mandatory blending; 2030 will rise to 6% SAF + 1.2% eSAF — directly pushing operating costs up. EBAA is pushing Book & Claim mechanism and relaxing anti-fuel-tankering provisions to ease compliance pressure.
